Aquatic therapy can offer tremendous benefits for patients who struggle with chronic pain or who are recovering from surgery and need to increase their physical activity. At Palms of Pasadena Hospital, our rehabilitation pool is heated to between 92 and 96 degrees for patient comfort and has a flat floor with varied depths of water to allow for different exercise programs.
Why is aquatic therapy so helpful? The water provides cushion and support to allow patients to control their body movements more effectively than they can on land. Exercise in water reduces the impact on the joints, making exercise safer and less painful for people with arthritis or recovering from surgery. Simply being submerged in the warm water can reduce weight on joints to provide pain relief. Being in the pool also relaxes our patients, which is beneficial to the healing process.
The therapeutic pool at Palms of Pasadena Hospital also has a hydraulic lift to make getting in and out easier. Aquatic therapy is just one example of the rehabilitative services we provide at our St. Petersburg hospital. For more information about aquatic therapy, acute rehab, and more, call (855) 245-8328.
