Spotting the Signs of a Sleep Disorder

Last updated 3 years ago

When you’re suffering from a sleep disorder, you may be the last to know it. Many patients who have sleep disorders only discuss symptoms with their doctors when their partners alert them to behaviors they have while at rest, like gasping or snoring during sleep. Paying attention to potential symptoms is important, as sleep disorders can be extremely dangerous to your health.

If you struggle to fall asleep or stay asleep on a consistent basis, it’s a good idea to schedule an appointment with your doctor. Persistent daytime drowsiness that you can’t explain is another common symptom of inadequate sleep stemming from a sleep disorder. If your spouse or partner complains that you snore loudly, stop breathing while sleeping, or appear restless while you sleep, talk to your doctor.

If you suspect you have a sleep disorder, ask your doctor to refer you to Palms of Pasadena Hospital in St. Petersburg and our Sleep Center. We’re the closest hospital and emergency room to St. Pete Beach and offer a complete range of services, including stroke care and acute rehab. For more information or a referral, call (855) 245-8328.
